I believe that I have mentioned my search, in 1985 or so, for two used Farmall M rear tires.

I saw two of them propped against a tree in a field. I stopped and inquired about them. The old lady said that they belonged to her son, who needed them for a tractor he was going to restore.

I drive by them about once a week. It's been almost 30 years. The lady died, the son moved away, new people bought the house, I restored and then sold my M, and the tires are still there, breeding mosquitoes.

A neighbor is "going to restore" a Volvo P1800. It has sat on mud for ten years. No amount of trying to convince him will get that car off the ground and into dry storage. The frame is now toast. The body panels are see-through. The glass is cloudy. Flora and fauna now call it home.

A local rich farmer had an old GM flatbed farm truck outside his farmstand, and one day back in 1989 I approached his son and daughter-in-law to see if I could buy the truck. I was at that time playing in a C&W and blues band, and it would have just the thing to get running and use to transport the band to local gigs. The truck had stood there in the weeds for at least ten years. They said that they would check with Dad, and let me know.

The next day, there were three of four farm worker guys there, heads in the engine room, asses sticking out, with the truck's hood up, a battery charger hooked up, tool boxes around and fuel cans on the ground, etc.

The next day, it wasn't there anymore. I musta spooked them into getting it running again.
