Thanks, Fred, for all the suggestions and comments. Compliments are appreciated, as well. :)
I loaded a section of a cottonwood tree with it just a few minutes ago. It's about 7' long and 22-24" diameter. The lift handled it quite well, but I learned quickly that the system used to lock the main vertical post in place is sorely inadequate. Basically it's a 5/16" bolt that travels through a nut welded to the larger pipe and clamps against the smaller inner pipe. The truck was parked on a slope and gravity took over, and the weight of the log disagreed with my plans for swinging the log into the back of the truck. So, on to develop a way of holding this in place.
Maybe I should have bought the $3200.00 crane instead of the $300.00 (plus $150 for the winch).
Oh well, no one I know has ever seen a hearse towing a trailer full of money. :) :)
