I think it also depends on what your use/needs for the truck is. No need for a show paint job on a work truck or a cheap one on a garage truck if you will. Single stage is a lot quicker. I would argue some with the theory of base clear being more forgiving. With the added layers you ALSO have to remember you have more opportunities to mess it up.

I've done both now and base/clear is a whole lot more work. Lets be honest here. Most paint jobs come down to the prep work and the surface being right to start with. With the cost of paint anymore you better have a decent gun or you'll be throwing away some serious $, especially with PPG.

If you go with base/clear be sure to use the "optional" hardener in the base. If you don't you can get some blistering on any future repairs.

Bottom line for me? single stage for work trucks, base/clear for drivers and show vehicles.
