Although I'm pretty sure a '69 truck would have had an alternator.
What's the point of trying to repair an old generator if the truck didn't originally come with one? Alternators are better.
Anyway, on an old generator, find out what's wrong with it. There's just bearings and brushes to fix and they are probably available individually. Any more than that and the generator is just junk.
