The local electric company used to be LILCO (Long Island Lighting Company) When I was a kid, they used lots of FFPW's and that's where my first real introduction to that truck occurred. When those monstrous trucks went through my neighborhood, all the kids stood and watched in awe.

LILCO got themselves in a jam and were prosecuted for RICO violations, resulting in a government takeover that created LIPA (Long Island Power Authority) That organization recently got taken over by PSE&G out of New Jersey, because LIPA themselves were corrupt and inept.

Anyway, when PSE&G took over last year, they went in and started selling off all the old trucks and equipment in order to modernize the fleet. The found a hangar at the former Grumman airfield in Calverton that had been used to store old trucks. In it they found 5 brand new 1965 Dodge WM300 trucks, that had been stripped of their engines and transmissions. The trucks will be rolled out and auctioned later this month.

If anyone is interested in bidding I suggest that they call the auctioneer to get a bidder's number. I can go there on behalf of anyone who is out of state but who wants to bid. These are all brand-new trucks, with less than 50 miles on each. They are yellow with black fenders, each with a winch. One is missing the winch and bumper halves, though. The tires are all dry-rotted, of course.

The number to call is 631 - 749 - 9970 to register as a bidder. Mention auction # 4-1-2014.
