Hey Nick
I have lived in Idaho since 1971 because Calif. was too crowded for me. Now my little town here is too crowded. But at least I can still get away with my WDX on most of the roads. If I have to travel on Hwy 95, it's only for 4 or 5 miles. People just have to deal with it or pass me. :)
I remember Hwy 49 back in the early '60s. I traveled from Mariposa to Mt. Lassen and back on a 650 BSA, visiting all the old ghost towns. It was really a cool trip back then. Got to see the dam that holds back the Feather River when it was still under construction.
Recently I looked at a CL link for a PW fire truck in Hayfork, Ca. I was amazed when I looked at the town with Google Street View. It was like going back to the '50s. So I guess there still are some relatively primitive areas left, even in Calif. :)
