I don't think thats fully the situation.

Times were different back then, cars were all the same, not as fast as traffic today. Doing 42-43 mph was the standard. And since going fast wasn't a problem, stopping wasn't either. Most of the driving of these trucks was done off road, or farm roads or smaller roads than we deal with today. Sure the military used them, but there weren't the same situations as today.

Today its almost more of a hazard to be going that slow. Roads are wider and carry more vehicles. Other drivers lack of attention and in-ability to drive makes stopping more of a necessity. I am confident in my driving ability. I drove trucks cross country and have over half a million miles. I drive a fire engine every day Im on duty and then some. Its not my ability I'm worried about, its the other idiots out there, and that makes me want to stop better. Not the fact its disc brakes and Im changing the originality. Cuz that bugs me, that I am not totally original now.

I just about agree with you, I would love to have lived back then, simpler times. I watch the Andy Griffith show just to see the innocent times and laid back lifestyle of then.

just wanted to provide a different perspective. Is it a valid one?

Nick
