I did a lot of research on truck cranes and settled upon the Vestil Model# WTJ-2. This is available from Northern Tool, but I got a lot better deal on it through my local Fastenal dealer.

What I like about this crane is that it has a hydraulic cylinder to raise/lower the jib as well as a winch. Most others have only one or the other option. The Vestil also has a jib that extends.

I bought an extra base. I mounted both bases to the bed of my trailer, one on either side, right above the axle and inside the fenders. I can easily move the crane to which ever base happens to be on the side of the trailer from which I am working.

I have lifted a 550lb 3-bottom plow numerous times with no problems with the jib extended and the plow hanging from the winch cable and using the cylinder to lift the jib. I can pull out the winch cable and use it to drag objects closer to the trailer if I can not get the trailer positioned exactly where I want it.

Build your own reinforcing for the underside of your bed.
