I had a buddy who drove a ore hauler in a copper mine, they routinely ran a hauler rated at 240 tons at 300 tons or to put in this way, 120,000lbs over rated load capacity.

I have also visited the machine shop where they machine those rear axles, it us up in Enid, OK. I was there on a different project, but they gave us a nice plant tour. Each machining station had a jib crane and a 2 ton manual chain hoist, and that was just for the bare axle housing. The housing a single heavy duty ductile iron casting (what we would call "cast steel"). Very heavy duty, and if you look at where this one broke, just outside the spring mount, maximum fatigue loading.
