That is a generous offer and I would certainly take you up on it if I was nearby. I am guessing most here use a tape measure the same as I have done. I have mud tires and I used a flat lug and just measured lug to lug. The bigger question to me is what alignment specs to use? With bias tires in the 9-16 size especially NDTs I would think original recommendations would be good but what about those with radial tires or non stock tires and/or wheels?

On a side note I interned at a local (St. Louis) alignment machine manufacturer and one of the engineers there owned a Corvette and he did his own alignments in his garage using a tape measure. He felt it was important to do alignments often and generally checked his monthly! I remember with newer cars how much technique mattered because of all the rubber in the front suspension and that the suspension loading could impact the alignment. I imagine turn plates and bouncing the suspension not such a big deal on a power wagon.
