Based on Paul's experience and comments, I'd agree. I installed one on the '46 Pw when I did the Disc/Drum Brake Job, but ended up backing it out almost all the way. Could have got by with out it.
On the M where I did a Disc/Disc, I started with out one and a 1-1/8" MC, but did not have enough braking power, and the pedal went almost to the floor. Once I stepped up to the 1-5/16" MC I needed one to prevent the rears from locking up prematurely.
