Let me help...the generator is in the front of the motor, so you are correct about that...
And the distributor is where you say it is, some models had magnetos, like the XLCH...
The crankcase changed in the mid 60, so you have the knuckle/pan/early shovel case there, so the early shovel heads were actually pan/shovels, panhead crankcases and shovel top end, and then went to a updated crankcase around 65 or so, with an alternator and points in line with the crank.
and you are showing an aftermarket air cleaner and probably SS carb also...
