sherman likely provided the correct answer below, but i had heard during the atomic age, lots of folks in the know dragged a chain or strap. thought was a detonation or an emp would render non grounded vehicles useless. just conjecture i believe, but people did strange things like build fallout shelters in queens, ny which is walking distance to what would be a nuclear grnd zero
