Welcome to Forum #442.
The professed excuse for this trip was a need to break in the new Dodge Power Wagon that she had purchased for her intended exploration of Baja California.

As usual, Louise took the wheel. If they had been after speed, the Power Wagon would not have been a good buy, but it proved its worthiness by slogging through the deep desert sand and over rocky terrain. But it was noisy, so noisy in fact that the women had to shout to make themselves heard above the din. That, coupled with the unusually high temperatures, made their first two days on the road more than a bit uncomfortable. Annie had a "funny little wooden seat" custom-made and attached to the top of the truck. There she perched for twenty miles, the distance from Sonora to Long Barn, until the wind almost got the better of her, and she capitulated.

The performance of the Power Wagon on this particular trip convinced the women that the vehicle would serve admirably on an extended desert excursion.
