Yes, I figure that it is off. It is off such that the coarse adjustment (the bolt which holds the plate on the back of the distributor) is pegged all the way. With the fine adjustment (the one on the front) that too has to be at the extreme in order to get the timing to be 0. Basically if you loose both bolts and turn the dist counter-clockwise all the way, I am at 0, I don't think I can get it to fire before TDC because I run out of distributor adjustment.

But it has "always" been like this, and it was running - I didn't take the oil pump out, and I am trying to minimize changes by not touching things.

I was reminded of this fact last night when I was trying to adjust. I don't know if this means a tooth or multiple teeth.


So I think that even though it is off a bit it should be able to be timed close, but not too adjustable.

I wish I had though of this while everything was apart, I'm sure it's a lot easier to get things aligned when you can see them (more or less).
