Don Bunn used the term Power Giant to refer to the 1957-60 Dodge trucks in his books. Actual factory literature uses the Power Giant labeling into the 1960s and the term refers to the V8 engines. In the later 1960s the term Power Giant referred to large V8 international engines installed in the Low Cab Forward trucks.

So to based on the factory way of looking at things a 1962 W300 is a Power Wagon for sure (as is every civilian 4wd truck built by Dodge from 1946 to 1980) and if it is a V8 it is a Power Giant engine.

Just like Sweptline is a term Dodge used to refer to the straight side bed and that term was used from 1959 until at least the mid 1970s in the factory literature. Common hobby usage of that term is for all 1961-71 trucks regardless of bed style.

I use these various terms in the more commonly accepted hobby way most of the time, but knowing the origin can be useful.

Eric
