Keep in mind that you may want to consider the factory adjustment as just a baseline. I rebuilt one of these for a restorer in Texas. I started out by setting it to the factory specifications and tested it on my truck. The performance was acceptable but not outstanding. When I sent it back to Texas, they couldn't get it to work correctly on the truck they were restoring. Then, we we spent weeks trying to diagnose and correct by phone and email.

It seems that one set up to work perfectly on one truck will not necessarily work correctly on another truck. Some variables that need to be taken into account are the amount of compression your engine has, the adjustment of your timing, the range of barometric pressure in your area, and the condition of the springs in the governor - are they fatigued from age?

However, by getting a fresh rebuild to factory specifications, the battle is halfway won.
