Maybe I have been lucky but I have used 12 volt jump backs to start 6 volt vehicles , I do have a good one not the cheap hf stuff. I had a few early 50's Plymouths I use a jump pack to move vehicles around my and never had a problems other then the brake light bulbs and they may have been dead anyway.
You could carry a optima 6 volt gel cell and use it as a jump back but not a cheap alternative
