I believe the air compressor topic has come up here a few times. I recently had the rather expensive pressure switch on my air compressor fail and the compressor is not that old (about 3 yrs). I have a true 5 hp (230 volt, 30 amps, 1.15 s.f.) compressor that does not have a magnetic starter. Do I need to consider having a magnetic starter added? I feel like maybe the current is too much for the pressure switch? The electrical connection to the motor was black and a little melted. I also looked into a different brand pressure switch and pressure swithes rated for 30 amps are pretty unusual so I ended up having to replace the one I had. I think I remember in previous discussions that the next size up the 7.5 hp definately needs a magnetic starter. How big of a deal would it be to add the starter? I bought a fairly nice compressor so I would have shop air when I need it and I then I didn't. Thanks in advance for any info.
