It's possible Tim, but doesn't match the earlier description you gave, where you said loss of operation was gradual, you could get it by pumping, then it didn't work. Normally if the disk is stuck pumping the pedal won't unstick it and let it stick again. Check it anyway in case your interpretation of the fault was a little off line.
