If your trip route brings you into Denver then south on I-25, You would be going right by Doug Higgins' collection of PW's and parts in Monument CO (south of Castle Rock; north of Colorado Springs). Once in Colorado Springs, The "Garden of the Gods" city park is an impressive tourist stop for an hour or so break from the road. I'm up the hill from Colorado Springs a little outside of Woodland Park.
Crested Butte is a GREAT Colorado destination. The ski crowd says of the town, "Its what Aspen used to be and what Vail never was." Our favorite place there to stay is Jerry Bigalow's "Claim Jumper Bed and Breakfast" and our favorite breakfast / lunch spot is the Bakery Cafe on the left side of the main dead-end drag through town.
Your van would be right at home going over Kebler and Ohio passes to the west and southwest of town. You should be able to make it most of the way up Schofield pass on the north side of town, but better stay off of the north side dropping down into the ghost Towns of Crystal and Marble. Stay away from Pearl Pass to the northeast of town which connects Crest Butte with Aspen unless you rent a 4X4. Another side trip might be Cottonwood Pass up in the Taylor Reservoir area a ways to the southeast of town. The van would make it up over and its paved on the east side dropping down into Buena Vista. Maps and more info on these spots would be available in town.
Enjoy the trip. Bruce Metzger
