Hi RD,
The HEMI was very expensive to build because the heads used a double rocker arm and shaft system to take advantage of the hemispherical combustion cambers. That is why the spark plugs were in the center of the head. Mopar went to the Poly heads to lower production costs. The Poly was basically the HEMI block and HEMI heads, BUT with only one set of rockers, this placed the spark plug back into a more conventional position. Poly production cost was still higher than Mopar could afford, based upon sales, so in 1967 the Poly was discontinued in favor of the Wedge. Less performance than the Poly, but lower weight and lower production costs. However you have to install high dollar, trick, Mopar Performance Heads to make an 'LA' flow as good as the stock 'A' Poly, HEMI type heads.
