Well, I was up at the cabin last night, and decided to poke around the Dodge a bit. I pulled the hub cap thingie off the passenger side...nothing odd there. I pulled the hub cap thingie (that is a proper term, no?) off the driver's side, and...lo and behold, half an axle shaft comes out with it.

OK...so easy diagnsis...busted outer axle shaft. Now is when I start to look dumb. I've never worked on this truck at all...its been so reliable. I've never actually worked on anything with 4wd. What do I need to do to get the other half of that outer axle shaft out (besides the magnets, that is).

Also, will a shaft from a M37 work, or are they longer? And where might I be able to find the on/off hubs for this beast? I'm still thinking of welding up the gears in the front for full lock, and figure un-locking hubs would be a good thing.

Cheers!
