Have you considered a W-100 Town Wagon? The Townies still get some respect off road although they can be top heavy for extreme off road. If you and your friends just want to travel in style on a few dirt roads, I would recomend a W-100 town wagon. Lots of support for parts as well. I originally was looking at a carry-all, but was glad to find the townie.
