NP435 Gear Lever/Top Cover Seal

The NP 435 has an aluminum top cover, with a cast-in tower protruding, and atop that tower is a hemispherical seat for the shift lever lower ball. A corresponding steel retainer holds the shift lever lower ball in the tranny top cover, and I'm not really comfortable leaving the shift lever ball/top cover interface open.

Did Dodge provide a rubber "umbrella" seal over the top cover and metal hold down piece?
