The key to safety is your towing vehicle must outweigh the towed vehicle. A trailer is only good if the first requirement is met, and if the trailer is equipped with brakes that are controlled by the towing vehicle. I learned this the hard way, by totaling a Dodge Dakota while pulling an empty car trailer without brake control on the trailer.
