I wish I could give you detailed information, but I'm from California. I didn't even know what the pliers were when if first got them.

My experience with snow chains comes from modifying snow chains to fit the various four wheel drive trucks I've had that I used to go skiing. None of the chains were hardened and I use to just put the end pieces in a vice and open them with vice grips. I know more expensive car chains are hardened, but I've never needed good chains and I've never worked with heavy equipment chains.

All the heavy duty chain pliers seem to have the same pincer arrangement, but the other parts vary depending on design. None of them have cutters.

I sold the pliers to a guy on this forum. He lived in Montana, or was it Idaho. By now, he should have had some experience with the pliers. Maybe, he will chime in.
