Nope, definitely not from California. I'd have to hate myself if I was. Okay, I understand the basic idea of opening up the cross-links, but where are there two different "teeth" for lack of a better word on the business end of it, and also it seems like if it was good it would have a way to squeeze the link back together again, too, and maybe a way to cut links, which I also can't see anywhere on it.

The chains that I mostly have are hardened so hard, though, that I'd be amazed if the hooks could be pried apart. I set them on a steel block and drive a cold chisel in, and usually they break before they open up far enough, or when I try to pound them back together they break. These pliers must be for softer chains.
