the stock cam and compression ratio are designed for 70 octane. so 89 is like race fuel. Lead additives are not needed in flathead mopars because all flathead mopars from about 1933 till end of production came from the factory with hardened valve seats. That being said running the additives like Bardahl InsteadOlead may reduce carbon build up the same as running a higher octane fuel would also.

I run the insead O Lead in my slant 6 and poly powered trucks over the years because they do not have hardened seats.
