one of the sites selling actually states it recommended and frequently used for making pistons for hydraulic equipment. So must be the better material of choice. the aluminum probably costs less is why they use it now in the aftermarket. I have seen later model (90s) cars with cast pistons as well. always the factory cylinders though.
