Auto-electric question

Hi Guys,
I am going to be installing an inverter into my Ram, the instructions say to run cables to both the positive and the negative battery terminals. Is there any reason why I could not run the neg. cable to a good ground on the frame? I am mounting the inverter underneath the drivers seat, and it is about a 6 foot run to the battery. Seems like a shorter one to the frame would be better?
