Sounds like a plan. But, have you ruled out adding a vacuum booster mounted in the stock location on the driver frame rail behind the cab?
A booster makes a BIG difference, and since this vehicle will be heavy, and you have drum brakes, it might be a good upgrade that is still "period" looking.
I have the stock MC on my PW, but with a rebuilt Midland booster. I can lock the brakes up and don't have to stand on the brakes to do so.
