Thanks for all the advice, but I guess I wasn't clear on the problem. The fire came out around the tank valve itself, not anywhere on my regulators or where the regulator attaches to the tank.
Turns out this torch didn't have any flashback arresters on it either, so I will put a pair on before the next time I use it. It's crazy that I didn't check before because I had so many I was selling them on ebay and now I'm down to my last 2 pairs. I don't think it was a flashback situation, though. I think it was a big leak combined with sparks going all over the place. I hate to think what would have happened if it had leaked for a long time and filled half the basement with gas before it ignited.
