i'm running a 100amp alternator in my command car, using the stock gauge. have not had any issues. the gauge hardly moves as the alternator keeps the batt charged and the load i place on the system - lights, small heater and xmas light via an inverter do not draw enough to make the alt work a lot. i went with a one wire alternator conversion and low speed cut in so that the alternator does its job. 8 years on the alt and optima battery.
