always go at least grade 5 on any automotive application. The modern grading system didnt exist back then I am pretty sure. I have looked into it and could not find a beginngin date it appears to be a fairly recent system. Either way factory bolts still are generally not marked, for many years now federal law says all autmotive fasteners must be at least grade 5. that is why auto parts stores only carry 5 and 8. I try to re-use the factory botls if there good but have used grade 5 on winch botls and heavily used the winch without any issues.
