I have been told never remove your seat belt until the officer is watching you do it. I never get my wallet out until he requests my licence. Why, simply I do not want a ticket.

Most states require you to wear your seat belt, if installed, on vehicles that predate seat belt laws. If there is not a seat belt installed, most will not cite you but will give you a bad time.

John from this forum got pulled over twice within 30 minutes for not having 2 tail lights. It took him a while to instruct the first officer that the law does not require 2 tail lights if it did no come from the factory with them. When he got pulled over the second time he basically told him to talk to the first officer. That really shortened the second stop.

I have learned to carry copies of certain laws in the truck with me. I find it much easier to show them the law rather than verbally trying to convince them. I had one very young officer pull me over in my 51 PW. He kept me for 45 minutes trying to find something. He even tried to say that the couple of branches in the bed constituted me hauling a load. The classic license forbids commercial loads not private loads. Then he said that I had not paid tabs for 8 years. I said yep that is true and that is how the classic registration works.

I just depends of how competent the officer is.
