I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one who is afraid things will start flying apart if you do over 40 mph... My truck seems happy at 35. But then my two cylinder John deere likes to run at 1,000 RPM...

As for the third member.. I'd put a heli coil in and use silicone thread sealant on the coil and the threads. I know it is a band aid, but in this case I think you will save yourself a lot of time and effort.

Regarding the helicoil, that is going to be hard to drill straight with a hand drill from underneath.. Good luck.
