NOS compress rings - what's the difference?

Hi all,

I am have just finished cleaning up the rings and pistons for my 230. The rings are NOS from 1957. There are two difference sets of compression rings, one which is mostly black with a small sliver of silver on the outside, and the other which is all gray/cast color.

Does anyone know the difference between the two, and which order do they get installed in (i.e. who's the top?).

They both have beveled inside edge and they measure to the same thickness.
