You just need .004 inch of gap per inch of cylinder diameter for the ring gap. This is minimum gap and for a low performance engine, that's all you need. The rings probably already come that way, but it is good to check.

High performance engines need more gap to keep the rings from "butting" up. If the gap on your rings measures much more than .004 per inch of cylinder bore, the rings are too small.

With ring gap, we are only concerned with how well the ring seals.
