My Ryobi 18 volt impact wrench seems to do the job just fine. You can't expect it to break loose lug nuts and the like, but it works fine on most stuff.
It's actually handier to use than an air impact on most stuff and it's great for trips to the wrecking yard.
The key to battery operated tools is to find a manufacturer you like and then stick to that line of tools.
