The 1/2" of foam is only to seal cracks and air leaks. It's to expensive to foam to the R value needed that you can get with fiberglass. I built my house in 1990 with 3/4 " foam sheathing, a 1/2" of spray foam between studs topped with 3 1/2" batts covered with poly film. This was the recommendation from my insulation contractor at the time. As for tightness and air quality issues you have enough of that with bath and kitchen exhaust fans combined with air leakage at doors and windows. I don't care how good the doors and windows are they will leak some air. The openings must be foamed as stuffing with fiberglass is old school.
