international flare signal co from a ww2 pt boat

came across a solid brass, steel barreled flare gun today. marked 1943, PT. has a lanyard. supposed to be for a pt boat. would love to get some flares for this, and use it on my boat. The bore is a monster compared to the ones i use in my plastic orion. any thoughts? would be a perfect addition to someone redoing a duck or gpa. it could likely be sleeved to accept modern flares.
