That's exactly correct...you can't idiot proof the product.
I don't buy the reason for them not lasting having anything to do with horsepower though. The engines are blowing up because the manufacturers are being forced to conform to emission standards that they don't yet have the technology to keep up with the rest of the machinery yet.
I've spent many years hanging around BD & PDR & I've seen 6BT's on the dyno putting out ridiculous amounts of torque & HP...like well over 1000hp, yet I've never seen one blow up...never. Blown head gasket from too much boost?...yes. Blown up intercoolers?...yup Blown up bottom end?...never.
There were a couple of years there between 2003-2005 where the engines were dropping valves but that had nothing to do with HP...that was just bad valve keepers & it blew up just as many stock engines as modified ones.
Most engine failures these days are from injector failure. They're just little computers & they don't last forever. When one goes it usually takes the engine out & that's the cost of trying to be more environmentally friendly than the manufacturers are capable of.
The solution is to regularly change your injectors...like every 100K, even though the engine is running perfect...but how many folks are going to do that when they're $3000/set compared to $300/set for the mechanical ones that last for a million miles?
