So for guys that are planning to remove the diesel particulate filter off their newer truck in search of making it more reliable & better on fuel, I was given some valuable advice a while back.
When you remove the DPF, you have to install a programer to trick the computer not to send fuel to it. So MiniMax, Smarty & all the rest of the programer manufacturers make 2 different types...the kind with a read-out on the dash where you can switch from economy mode to high performance modes with the click of a button, or else you can buy the programer where you plug it into your OBD port & download whatever program you want but have to plug it back in & reprogram if you want to change it.
The one with the read out seems like the one to have...right?
So my buddy at PDR says to never buy the one with the display(unfortunately that's what came with mine when I bought the truck)
Crooks are smashing windows & grabbing them...knowing they're worth over $1000. Once some ass grabs yours...you can't even start your truck!!...totally disabled.
Once the DPF has been removed, the truck can't be started without the program installed & so if that gadget gets stolen, you're S.O.L.
Who'd a thunk?
