Then I would tend to look at the grounds. An LED takes almost no voltage to run, but the ground may not be strong enough to support the charger? Though that still seems rough since most chargers are around 800 mA @ 5V.
What does the volt meter say? Can you actually get the socket to heat up the cigarrete lighter? Those will tell you if you have a voltage or amperage issue quick and easy.
