I like to use an iron phosphate was before painting ot powder coating.
I get mine at Home Depot, dilute with about 10 parts water to 1. part phosphate and I spray it on the parts with a spray bottle like used for winded and such. Rinse it off with clean water and. Let it dry.
I just bought a gallon of Phospho Wash at Home Depot.
