Sparking in the same place doesn't help much, and at higher revs there just is not enough time for the coil to re-saturate, so they just don't Multiple Spark Discharge.

Coil saturation takes dwell time, that is why they went to dual points distributors. They were called 'dwell extenders'.

Hmm, though, maybe at 3,000 rpms of a flat head, they might actually M-S-D?
