Here, once you are out of the incorporated areas your best bet is supposedly commercial wifi or some sort of cellular radio thingy. It's supposed to be better than telco or cable, but I don't know anyone using it. Here there are also private homebrew wifi systems that are surprisingly good, but they rely on urban base stations to hook into telco lines. The irony is that we have several major fiber backbones running just beneath the ridges with no connection points. The lines run from the ocean to Scaramento. Congratulations on your digitally connected good news. I hope they get it installed and lighted quickly.
