Well if we're going to tell embarrassing stories, I have a similar battery story but I wasn't so fortunate. I restored a 1940 Indian Chief for a friend & just got everything finished up & decided that I'd better take it out for a test ride. Driving one of those things around...you get mobbed with admirers. You just get used to tuning them out when you're riding. So I'm on the highway & these folks are honking & waving..."Whatever folks....it's a motorcycle."
Anyway...they kept up & I finally looked over to see them pointing at the bike. "Ya Ya...Indian...I know!" No...they keep pointing until I finally turn to look back & the very expensive reproduction battery has slide out from under its hold down bolt & it's dragging on the ground...there's literally only half of it left!! It'd been ground like a wedge block of cheese!!
Oh brother!!! I pull it off & boy am I embarrassed!!! There's acid sprayed everywhere & it's just a huge mess made of a 99 point show bike.
I prop the battery back into the frame with a few sticks & the friggin thing started & drove home!! :)
I never did tell my pal that story. I cleaned it up & ate the new $300 battery & that was that...he was none the wiser :)
Boy I felt like an idiot though!
