not noisy driving down the road (sometimes) but shifting between forward and reverse with an auto. I hate that sound. driven hundreds of them in shops I worked in way back. they actaully fail too. gear drives just dont. seen bearings go bad on gear drives but never to the point of stopping the vehicle. seen the catastrophic failures of chain drives. worthless design. just a cost cutting measure
